jennifer check diy halloween costume
happy halloween! well, almost. 2020 hasn’t been the best year, for any of us, but i couldn’t skip out on my favorite holiday. if you know me, you know making my halloween costume is the highlight of my year. from cheryl blossom to christina aguilera, i had to keep the tradition going for 2020.
i am obsessed with the movie jennifer’s body! i don’t think it gets enough credit for how good of a horror-comedy it is. plus, megan fox is smokin’ and does such an amazing job as jennifer check. i thought her prom dress would be easy enough to re-create! it’s also one of my favorite scenes with so many iconic lines.
DISCLAIMER! (is that how this works? idk) it bothers me SO bad that my top row of lace is too close to the top. if you compare it to her prom dress, my top row of lace should be closer to the second row and more towards the bottom. it bothers me so bad. and i know you probably wouldn’t have even realized until i pointed it out, but i am such a perfectionist. regardless, here’s how i made it!

jennifer’s body prom dress diy
i first started with the base of the dress. i’m not a seamstress, so creating her dress from scratch wasn’t really an option for me. i used this dress here from forever21 to start.
i then bought about two yards of white sheer fabric (i don’t really know how to describe it) to put on top of the dress to give it that layered prom dress look. i really only needed like one yard, but i wanted extra just in case. i could have sewn this fabric all around the dress, but it’s 2020 and i just didn’t want to put in that much effort. so i literally used fabric glue and glued it around the entire dress.
after the top sheer layer was added, i then took some black lace ribbon and started gluing it (again) around the dress. this is where i should have made the top lace closer to the bottom, but oh well. again, i could have sewn this, but gluing worked just fine. the dress is basically destroyed in the end with blood anyway, so i didn’t want to waste time or effort.
after the lace was around the dress, i added plain black ribbon at the top under the lace. this ribbon was super long and hung down to make a bow. as you can see the bow kind of gets destroyed so i basically just glued the plain black ribbon around the top and had it hang down super low.

that’s basically it! i ordered these gloves from amazon and the necklace was basically just a small charm and some thin ribbon that i got from michael’s.
let me know if you re-create this! i was super happy with how it turned out. especially for how easy it was. have a safe and fun halloween!
