makeup routine for acne with alima pure
wow, it’s been a while since i’ve written an actual blog post. oops! things have just been so busy. thanks for sticking around anyway!
*note i’m not wearing makeup in any of these photos* – most of you probably know that i struggle with acne. it never used to be crazy in high school, but the last two years have been pretty rough. i try to be as open and honest about it as i can because i know a lot of you also share the same struggles. i thought it would be super beneficial to share the makeup i’ve been using! i know a large part of having acne is covering it up and finding products that don’t irritate your skin or make your acne worse.
this can take a lot of trial and error, but the products i’ve been using recently have honestly changed the game for me and my acne.
i will start out by saying that if you’re looking for a full coverage makeup routine, this is not it. i personally don’t mind if my breakouts are showing through my makeup a little bit. to me, it looks way more natural and i’m not a makeup fan to begin with. i never used to wear makeup much at all until my skin decided to stop cooperating with me. awesome!
alright, leggo.
i wish i had multiple brands to talk about, but honestly, alima pure has been the only brand of makeup i’ve been using over the last 6 months. i’m obsessed! their products are priced fairly, they last a good amount of time, they don’t irritate my skin or make me break out at all, AND they donate a bit of their profit to grassroots environmental organizations dedicated to protecting our planet. alima pure is a certified b corporation and are sustainable with their refills! i know a lot of you probably don’t care about all of that, but it’s really important for me to use products that work towards a healthier planet and genuinely just GOOD to put on your skin. when i started researching makeup and how it’s made and the ingredients of certain brands, i was shocked at what i was putting on my skin.
i know, i just rambled a bit, but hear me out!
satin matte foundation
SO obsessed with this foundation. i will say, it’s a loose mineral powder, so my only complaint is how messy it can be but it’s very worth it. i wasn’t sure this foundation would cover much since it’s a powder and not liquid but it covers up literally everything. again, it’s not full coverage but it is buildable. i would say it is for sure a medium coverage if you want it to be. it evens out my skin tone so nicely. i have a lot of acne marks from previous breakouts and this totally takes care of them. alima pure does have a liquid foundation if that’s more your style, but i haven’t tried it yet! i used to use a smashbox foundation or a nars one, but when i took my makeup off for the day, my breakouts always looked so irritated and red. after removing this makeup, my skin actually looks good. it doesn’t look red or irritated at all. soooooo in love with this foundation and i’ll probably never go back to any other brand.
cream concealer
i wanted to love this concealer so bad, but i didn’t. it did get rid of some redness and was decent for under my eyes, but i feel like it didn’t give nearly enough coverage on my actual pimples and came off my skin quickly. the consistency wasn’t my favorite either. it just seemed patchy. which is so unfortunate.
mineral powder concealer
THIS concealer, however, blew me away! i wasn’t expecting much from it since it’s a powder concealer but whoa, it covers everything. i love the texture and how even it makes my skin tone. it is a bit messy like the foundation because it’s a powder, but totally worth it. i don’t use it under my eyes but it works wonders for all of my acne marks.
bronzer
the bronzer was just ok for me! i didn’t love it, but also didn’t hate it. i think it’s perfect for the winter when i’m a little more pale and don’t need a ton of pigmentation out of my bronzer, but for the summer there isn’t enough color pay off. i have a medium-olive skin tone, so a bronzer has to be a bit more on the darker side! if you have more fair skin, you’ll love this! they do have one shade darker than i bought that i might try out! i’m sure it’ll show up better on my skin, i just haven’t ran out of the color i ordered yet! i still recommend the bronzer though because it does give a super soft bronzed look. i’m not sure if i recommend it for contouring, but if you’re looking for just a nice splash of bronze, it’s perfect! def a very natural feel (which i love).
radiant finishing powder
this powder was probably one of the best setting powders i’ve ever used! it’s so lightweight and creamy and literally MELTS into the skin. it blends everything out so well and i was shocked by how much i loved this product. it gives a nice little glow to the skin as well! you could probably get away with using this as a super natural highlight, but i love it for all over the skin. there’s no other way to describe it than by saying it genuinely melts everything together. love!
mineral blush
alright, this blush is probably going to last me years, ha. it’s SO pigmented! like so so so pigmented. which is awesome though! the color is great the texture is great. again, it looks super natural. i will say, all you need is a super light hand and a very small amount of product. they have a ton of color options too, which is great! i have honey rose and it’s the perfect medium pink shade.
additional products
i haven’t tried their primer yet but i def want to! once i get my breakouts under control even more, i might try it out. i stopped using primer and setting spray because they can be super irritating to the skin and pore-clogging. i also really want to try their makeup brushes and lipsticks! maybe i’ll purchase these items next and let you guys know how i like them. if you have any makeup products that you love that don’t irritate your skin or cause breakouts, please let me know! it can be so hard to find products for my super sensitive skin.
if you have questions, leave them in the comments! you can also reach out on instgram and shoot me a message. alright, that wraps it up! my next post will be about my acne skincare routine, but i just need to give a few products a little while longer on my skin before i start recommending them. so stay tuned!
