l’oreal colorista semi-permanent hair dye review
ok, before i write this review, please note that I KNOW I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WOULD HAPPEN. but, sometimes, you just hope for the best and the worst happens. this post is all about my experience with the l’oreal colorista semi-permanent hair dye. brace yourselves.
my hair background
so let me back up. before i had brown hair, my hair was literally white. you can read all about that here. but as of february (or march) i went back to brown hair. over the last few months, the brown had lightened up quite a bit, to more of a light golden brown as opposed to a chestnut brown.
i didn’t think this would be an issue, but it totally was! i LOVED the look the teal l’oreal colorista hair dye gave me. like absolutely loved it. if i didn’t have engagement photos soon, i probably would have kept it in as long as i could have. unfortunately, i knew i couldn’t keep it for long.
how to get colorista semi-permanent hair dye out of your hair
jokes on all of you – you can’t!
the directions said it would last 7-14 washes (i think?), so i thought i would be fine. the first few washes, the dye really came off quick. which was fine because that was what i wanted! i started to intentionally try to get it out after a few washes because i was ready for brown hair back. this wasn’t as easy as just shampoo, unfortunately.
after about three washes (with shampoo that contained sulfate of course) the teal dye was completely out of my brown (natural) hair. my roots/brown hair had grown out quite a bit since they were last bleached, before i went back to brown. and i didn’t have a problem at all getting that out.
the issue, though, was with my previously bleached hair. IT WOULD NOT COME OUT. which, i should have expected. i really should have. but i had so much hope! also, when i say i tried everything, i literally mean everything. i tried dish soap, head and shoulders, vitamin c, you name it. and it still would not come out! i probably washed my hair a total of like 25 times in 7 days. which i know, is so bad for your hair.
in conclusion
i ended up having to call my hair dresser and she did a little bleach scrub and all that jazz and that finally got 99% of it out. BUT WOW! in conclusion, i don’t think i can blame the product entirely. as i should have known it would grab on to my previously bleached hair, but i thought since it was supposed to wash out with literally just shampoo, it wouldn’t be this difficult.
if you’re looking for a color that is going to come out super super easy, i suggest maybe one of the like 24hr sprays or something? idk, don’t listen to me! i clearly have no idea what i’m doing.
enjoy some photos of my hair like the day after it was done and i loved it xo
