let’s talk resolutions
hi, i’m back! i know… it’s been a while. but it’s 2019 and i am ready to start the year with a blog post all about.. resolutions?
i don’t know if i want to call these resolutions or more like small lifestyle upgrades. i find that when i create too big of a resolution or too crazy of a change at once, i totally fail after a few weeks. i’m sure most of you can relate!
i can’t just go “ok, i’m going to start waking up every morning at 5am” and then just do it after i’ve been used to waking up at 745am every single day. i have to start slow! so instead, i’ll do something like wake up at 5am two days a week – and then slowly change my mornings as the months go on.
another thing i really like doing is dividing up my resolutions/goals by month. so instead of saying that i’m going to hit the gym 4x a week for the entire year – i’ll just create a goal to hit the gym let’s say 15x in january. and i’ll focus on only the month of january. and then for february maybe i’ll change it to 20x that month – or even just 10x. if i focus on the entire year – i get way too overwhelmed.
OK NOW LET’S GET ON WITH IT – i’m sorry for such a long intro
use less plastic
i used to think that it was totally fine to use a ton of plastic bags or plastic containers, etc. because i was going to recycle it. i always thought since i was going to recycle all of the plastic i was utilizing, then it didn’t matter how much i grabbed. FALSE. not all of the plastic you recycle even gets recycled – which is so sad!
so a goal of mine is to just use as little plastic as possible. making sure i grab my reusable grocery bags when i go to the store, finding an alternative to zip lock bags, etc. if you have any tips – please let me know!
continue to meal plan
ok so i’ve been planning out our meals for the entire MONTH – yes MONTH. and it has been glorious. we usually cook around 4 meals each week (it’s just the two of us so we always have leftovers for lunch/second dinner). so i have a spreadsheet with 4 weeks (for the entire month) and then 4 meals for each week. i’ll include the recipe and a space to make a grocery list, so that each week we already have our meals and grocery lists completed.
i can’t even tell you how much TIME this has saved. we all know the struggle of “what do you want to eat? ” – “idk what do you want to eat” – and i’m the worst with it. this has also helped me when it comes to eating healthy. i’ll take that hour each month to plan out our meals and find healthy and yummy recipes! we used to get so frustrated when trying to come up with a dinner plan for the night, that a lot of the time we would just go with the unhealthier option because it was quicker and easier.
so planning out each meal has just been so so so helpful! let me know if you want a free downloadable meal planning print! i’d love to make one and share it with you guys to help you do the same. it could be fun!
chemical free products
ok, i’m going to write an entire separate blog post about this because i’v honestly just been learning so much and i have so many brands that i want to share with you all, but lately i’ve been working on switching all of my products to chemical free!
a few of my friends have totally inspired me to do this! i’ve been wanting to do it for a while now, but went back and forth between products and brands and just didn’t know where to start. it has been a journey to say the LEAST – but i am so happy with where i am at right now.
i’ve so far switched all of our house hold cleaning products (surface cleaner, glass cleaner, hand soap, lotion) as well as personal hygiene products (deodorant, toothpaste, body wash, etc.) to chemical free! going chemical free was something that was just really important for me. it’s soooooo bad to be exposing yourself and body to all of those harmful chemicals. it can also be dangerous (obv) for little tiny humans to be around or near things like windex and clorox.
i’m not saying that if you use chemical products that you are terrible and wrong or anything – we all have to find what’s right for us! it was just really important for me to do this and i can’t wait so share so much more with you.
stop buying things
i’m actually not THAT bad with this, i like to think i budget pretty well, but i will say, i need to stop buying things that i do not need just because they are on sale. in general, i’m a pretty minimalistic person. i hate clutter, i hate things that don’t have a proper place, i just hate STUFF.
i do however, find myself buying clothes or just nicknacks because they’re cute and on sale and then i get home and i get overwhelmed because i have all of this clutter that i don’t need. it stresses me out! i’m really good at getting rid of junk and clearing our space – i make a trip to donate like every other month, i just want to be even better at it. i’d have to make less trips to donate stuff if i stopped bringing stuff into our apartment that isn’t needed.
ok! that is it! i know it was a long post – so thanks for sticking with me. i am so excited to share more with you this year! sooooo many life changes are happening over the next 6 months.
xo,
courtney raf
