hello.
i’m not sure if it’s the weather change or the fact that i basically ate chocolate every single day in october, but my skin has not been the best. i’ve been breaking out pretty bad lately. i thought this would be the perfect time to share some skin care tips to help keep your skin clear! kind of ironic since i’m breaking out. but for the last 6 months my skin has been the clearest since like 7th grade. seriously.
of course things like drinking a lot of water and eating healthy are great skin care tips, but i wanted to share with you a few random and weird tips that i’ve learned over the years. i’m not saying these tips will work for everyone, because we all have different skin situations going on, but these have been super helpful for me!
wash your pillowcase
i know that it’s common sense to wash your pillowcase when you wash your sheets once a week or whenever, but if you have sensitive skin or suffer from oil and breakouts, you may want to consider changing or washing your pillowcase more frequently.
i wash my pillowcases generally once a week, but i find myself making sure i rotate my pillow or change the pillowcase entirely once or twice during that week. it’s really important to change your pillowcase regularly so all of that oil and dirt isnt being pushed back into your freshly cleansed skin each night!
wash your face last
this is SO RANDOM. i know. i read it online like a few years ago and decided to try it out. it makes total sense when you think about it, BUT after you are done washing your hair and body and whatever in the shower, wash your face LAST. again, if you have sensitive skin, this is probably more for you. the reason behind this, is that the soap from washing your hair can obviously run onto your face.
if the soap from your hair is the last thing to touch your face, this can cause you to break out. i always make sure to wash my fast last so that i can also make sure i’m cleansing and washing off all of the shampoo and body wash from my face. those can easily clog your pores! anyway, give it a try! it has made a difference to my very sensitive skin.
less is more
if you’re a beauty blogger, or a girl who likes new face products in general, it’s so tempting to constantly be trying out a ton of new face products. i mean you have oils, masks, exfoliators, toners, the list is endless. i’ve learned that the less products i use on my face, the better it has been for my skin. i use a face wash, toner, under eye cream, and moisturizer. that’s it! every now and again i’ll use an oil, depending on how my skin is acting, but i keep it very very basic. i try to stay away from using face masks (especially different ones) too often because that is just really harsh on my skin.
switch your products at different times
if you do like switching up your products and trying new ones out, try to change them up at different times. for example, if you run out of moisturizer and toner and you want to try a new one, only change up one of them. so get a new moisturizer, but keep using the same toner. this way, if your skin starts acting up you know EXACTLY what the source of the problem is. if you switch up your moisturizer and toner at the same time, it’ll take longer to pinpoint what product is causing the reaction.
where to use oils
this might not be for everyone BUT i’ve learned when i use an oil i generally have to avoid putting it on my cheeks, where my pores are the biggest, like right under my eyes and across from my nose. does that even make sense? lol oils typically clog those pores a lot more than they do on my forehead and chin, etc.
there you have it! a few skin care tips that hopefully help! again, everyone is different and you may not need to do any of these things, but i wanted to share a few tips that weren’t so general and basic like “wash your face in the morning and at night” and “drink lots of water”.
share your tips with me in the comments!
